12 new deaths linked to COVID-19 in Ottawa, total cases surpasses 1,200

OTTAWA -- Ottawa Public Health is reporting the largest one-day spike in COVID-19 cases and deaths in Ottawa since the first case was reported seven weeks ago.

Twelve more residents have died due to COVID-19 related complications in Ottawa. No other details were released in the daily COVID-19 Epidemiology Update.

According to the Ottawa Public Health institutions update, eleven new deaths were reported in long-term care facilities due to COVID-19 between Sunday and Monday.

On Tuesday, 67 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed among Ottawa residents. Since the first case of COVID-19 was announced in Ottawa on March 11, there has been 1,221 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, including 71 deaths.
