There has been a further reduction in the number of patients in hospital with Covid-19, according to figures from the HSE. There were 1,803 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals around the country last night.

That is a reduction of 145, compared with the situation yesterday morning. The number of patients in ICU with Covid-19 has also reduced by two, to 217.

Across the hospital system there are now 30 adult ICU beds free. The hospitals with the most cases are University Hospital Waterford with 125 patients, Cork University Hospital with 124 and St Vincent's in Dublin with 119.

Last night the National Public Health Emergency Team said the number of cases in hospital had plateaued, but that it would take many weeks for the numbers to reduce.
