PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say two teenage girls were shot when they tried to drive away from a group of young men Friday night in North Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Police Captain John Walker told reporters that four teenage girls between ages of 16 and 17 were driving in a car near the intersection of Cecil B.

Moore Avenue and North Broad Street around 10 p.m. As they slowly drove down the street, Walker said the girls became engaged in a conversation with a group of young men standing on the corner.

Police believe at least four of the males approached the car and started to reach inside.Walker said when they tried to stop the girls from rolling up the windows a 16-year-old in the back passenger's seat pepper sprayed the group.

NOAA's law enforcement office said a necropsy on the dolphin revealed it was impaled in the head by a spear-like object while still alive. The dolphin was a lactating female, and it appeared to have died from trauma, which happened at or around its time of death, according to NOAA.READ: Dolphin dies after reportedly being harassed by Texas beachgoersLaw enforcement officials said they suspect the dolphin was impaled while in a "begging position." COLOMBO (News 1st); SriLankan Airlines issued a clarification with respect to speculation circulating on social media with respect to SriLankan Aircraft uplifting printed material to Entebbe International Airport in Uganda last year. SriLankan Airlines on Thursday (14) said it received an air cargo order to transport about 102 tons of printed material from Colombo to Entebbe International Airport in Uganda in February 2021.The consignment was purely commercial in nature and brought in much-needed foreign revenue to the airline and country at the time. SriLankan wishes to emphasize that this cargo order was undertaken for commercial reasons only, it added.The details of the cargo consignment were withheld due to contractual obligations as per air cargo industry standards said the statement.However, in response to concerns raised following the statement the national carrier tweeted to say that the Ugandan government ordered Ugandan currency notes from a global security printer who operates several factories worldwide, including one in Sri Lanka, exporting to global markets.It went on to note that SriLankan aircraft which were underutilized at this time (2021) during the pandemic were chartered by a UK-based freight forwarder.What is now being misunderstood is the Airline Pilots Guild’s proud announcement of this achievement of using unutilized pax aircraft, it added.

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota is asking people to not fill bird feeders or birdbaths to help stop the spread of bird flu this spring. In a post on Facebook, The Raptor Center’s Executive Director and Veterinary Epidemiologist, Dr. Victoria Hall urged the public to do everything they can to help prevent the gathering of songbirds. Hall says the country is facing an unprecedented outbreak of avian influenza (HPAI) in wild birds. While most research about bird flu’s effects centers around waterfowl, shorebirds and seabirds, since they are the birds that most often survive the illness, the Raptor Center is concerned about the virus’ effect on raptors as they often die from the virus."During these unprecedented times, we recommend doing anything that we can to try and help our wild bird populations.

PHILADELPHIA - The early preview of summer will end overnight as temperatures migrate back to more seasonable levels ahead of Easter weekend.A round of quick-moving showers that spawned brief Severe Thunderstorm Warnings on Thursday afternoon will drag cooler air into the Delaware Valley to stunt temperatures that previously reached into the 80s. Most of the region is in the clear, but areas towards the New Jersey coast should brace for severe weather expected before 7 p.m.Forecasters expect dry and partly cloudy conditions overnight, but temperatures will be noticeably colder in the low-to-mid 40s. Conditions will rally on Friday with a nice mix of sun and clouds to help kick off Easter weekend. Forecasters expect temperatures to approach 70 degrees in most parts of the region. Similar conditions will follow on Saturday with the chance of some nighttime showers that will help plunge temperatures for Easter Sunday.

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University's police union claims it's facing a staffing crisis that is greatly impacting campus safety as gun violence continues to rage in North Philadelphia.The union says it's operating at 60% of its typical workforce and each officer has worked about 42 overtime shifts since last July.On Monday, the union said on its Facebook page that it "cannot perform adequate community policing techniques that we have done in the past to reduce crime in the community." This comes as the Philadelphia Police Department shared new information about a recent shooting on Temple's during which investigators believe a 15-year-old gunman opened fire on a car full of teenage girls. Authorities say a 15-year-old boy is facing charges in three different shootings this month, including a shooting last Friday that left two teen girls injured and another that critically wounded a 14-year-old.Police Captain John Walker told reporters that the girl's car turned onto the 1500 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue just before 10 p.m.
