67 coronavirus clusters recorded in nursing homes

Nursing homes and hospitals have seen a further increase in the number of clusters of the coronavirus. There are 260 outbreaks of the infection, linked to 989 cases.

Nursing homes now have 67 clusters, with the vast majority of them in the east. There are 45 clusters in hospitals, 32 outbreaks in residential institutions and 16 in community hospitals or long stay units.

The latest data published by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre is based on the 4,916 confirmed cases of the virus up until midnight on Saturday.

The data shows the number of healthcare workers with the virus has also increased to 1,263. From these figures, 25% of all cases in Ireland have been hospitalised.
