People are being urged to consider advanced healthcare planning in the context of Covid-19. The Decision Support Service for adults who have difficulties with decision making capacity has said information about treatment choices and likely outcomes should be discussed.
The DSS was established under the Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015 to replace the wards of court system which is in existence for over 100 years.
It was put in place to support vulnerable adults like people with intellectual disabilities, older people with impaired capacity, or those with an acquired brain injury.
The Service is at the final stages of implementing its code of practice. The supports it will provide will help to ensure that people will be able to
