Almost 100 domestic abuse reports recorded in Ayrshire since the new law

Almost 100 domestic abuse offences have been recorded in Ayrshire following the introduction last year of the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018.The new Act was introduced on April 1, 2019 and created a single offence covering the full range of abusive behaviours including physical, psychological, financial and sexual abuse.There were 99 offences recorded across Ayrshire in 2019/20 and of these, 92 involved female victims and seven male victims.The statistics come as Police Scotland published its Performance Report, introduced by Deputy Chief Constable Fiona Taylor, and Quarter 4 Management Information.They show that 1681 offences were recorded in the first year of the Act being introduced.
