The Washington Post (5/5, Janes) reports a significant cross-section of Americans has faced a dilemma in the weeks since the pandemic has begun, “forced to choose between isolating themselves against contracting a potentially fatal disease and continuing to receive the much-needed help of home health workers.” Some aides providing this care are regulated by Medicare while others “are providing more-personal assistance – helping patients move around their homes and assisting with basic functioning – as part of noncertified services that are similarly crucial to those who require them.” Additionally, a recent National Association for Home Care and Hospice survey “found that 42 percent of home health aides were treating patients who had tested.
