Anti-racism demonstrators are planning to gather in London later today as George Floyd is laid to rest in the US. The socially distanced commemoration at the Nelson Mandela statue in Parliament Square at 5pm has been organised by Stand Up To Racism.
Like other rallies seen across the UK, protesters will bend the knee during an eight-minute silence as a symbol of solidarity.
George Floyd, who died on May 25 after a police officer in Minneapolis restrained him by holding a knee on his neck, will be buried in his home town of Houston in Texas. The burial follows a public funeral service held on Monday, where thousands of mourners travelled to the Fountain of Praise church to say goodbye to Mr Floyd - who was dressed in a brown suit in an open.
