More than 120,000 dead worldwide More than 120,000 people have died worldwide from the coronavirus in 193 countries and territories, according to an AFP tally around midday today, based on official sources.

There have been 1,923,390 reported infections since the virus emerged in China in December. The United States has the most deaths of any country with 23,649 fatalities and 582,594 reported infections.

Italy follows with 20,465 deaths, Spain with 18,056, France with 14,967 and Britain with 11,329. Plunging growth  Britain's economy could shrink by a historic 13% in 2020 in the case of a three-month coronavirus lockdown, according to a scenario by the fiscal watchdog the Office for Budget Responsibility.
