Ayrshire has one of the worst drug-related death rates in Scotland, a new report has shown. A record high of 108 deaths in 2019 were linked to drugs in the NHS Ayrshire & Arran area – up from 82 in 2018, National Records of Scotland (NRS) figures show.The region’s average drug deaths per 1000 population is the third highest in the country (0.20) and is only worse in Tayside (0.21) and Greater Glasgow and Clyde (0.27).Across a decade, Ayrshire’s drug-related deaths have increased by 145 per cent with an average of 31 between 2005 and 2009, however, between 2015 and 2019 that average figure had increased to 76.Across Scotland as a whole, 1264 drug related deaths occurred last year, a six per cent increase from 2018 and the highest rate in.
