Irvine grandad beat the odds and was released from hospital after battling Covid with one lung.William Burns, who is set to celebrate his 77th birthday next week, told what life has been like over the past year.From isolating himself to seeing his beloved grandkids through the window, the pensioner is doing all he can to get through the pandemic.But the prospect of celebrating his birthday with a fish supper by the seaside is helping to keep him going.The grandad-of-14 – who lost a lung to cancer in 2007 and previously battled prostate cancer – told Ayrshire Live: "My breathing is a lot worse, I'm back on oxygen and I'm set to go back to respiratory next week."I'm managing to get out in the garden but I do need to pace myself, if I do too.
