The BBC said it is hoping to resume filming on soaps including EastEnders “as soon as possible”. On-site production of the broadcaster’s continuing dramas – including Casualty, Holby City and Doctors – was paused in March in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The BBC has been showing two episodes of EastEnders a week to make the already filmed shows last as long as possible. Controller of BBC drama Piers Wenger said the soaps are “under a constant process of reassessment” and head of continuing drama Kate Oates is working to get the shows “back on their feet as soon as possible”.
He added: “Nobody wants EastEnders not to be on screen and I don’t think there’s anyone more determined than Kate to get it back on screen as soon as possible.
