Bolton Wanderers place staff on furlough as coronavirus puts club 'in hibernation'

Bolton Wanderers confirmed a number of staff have been placed on furlough, with the club being 'acutely affected' by coronavirus.

Chairman Sharon Brittan and Westhoughton-born board member Michael James confirmed that the club has effectively been 'in hibernation' since halfway through this month.

They also confirmed that Wanderers' Chief Executive Officer Emma Beaugeard's father David recently died after contracting Covid-19.

Despite the current situation, including the closure of the hotel, staff will receive their full salaries for March. In a joint-statement posted on the club's official website, Mrs Brittan and Mr James said: "We sincerely hope that you and your families are well.
