Some 1.3 million Brits have been given the Covid-19 vaccine - including 23% of over 80s, Boris Johnson has said. The Prime Minister pledged to provide daily updates on vaccine figures from Monday as he warned of "long weeks ahead" as the UK races to roll out jabs in the face of spiralling infection rates.
Around 1.1million people - 1 in 50 in private households - were infected with coronavirus between December 27 and January 2, according to shock figures from the Office for National Statistics.
Mr Johnson told a Downing Street press conference that 1.1 million people in England had received the jab as of Tuesday, with 1.3 million across the UK.
