Holidays in the UK or abroad will not be allowed until the end of the new national lockdown in mid February. Government guidance states that any travel of the sort is banned and one must only move for strictly essential reasons as permitted by law.
The rules are part of new guidance published as Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced England's third national lockdown this evening.
The PM said "tougher" measures were needed to stop the spread of the virus as an increasing number of hospitals are struggling to cope with the number of admissions.
Under the newly announced rules, "you cannot leave your home or the place where you are living for holidays or overnight stays unless you have a reasonable excuse for doing so".
