UK Covid cases spike past 60k as new record set for highest ever daily infections

coronavirus infections – the day after Prime Minister Boris Johnson plunged England into its third national lockdown.The Government said that, as of 9am on Tuesday, January 5, there have now been a further 60,916 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK - the highest daily total reported so far since the pandemic began.It brings the total number of coronavirus cases in the UK to 2,774,479 and is the first ever time the number of cases within a single day has risen over 60,000.The Government also said that a further 830 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 76,305.Separate figures published by the UK's statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on.
