Boris Johnson has threatened to overrule local leaders if the new measures introduced to curb the spread of Covid-19 do not work as hoped.
The Prime Minister said the Government will offer mayors in the North of England more support in terms of test and trace and law enforcement, but will not hesitate to introduce more restrictions if needed.
It comes as some local leaders said they do not agree with the measures that were "dictated" by the Government. Mr Johnson made the comments during a Downing Street press conference tonight.
