A new three-tier strategy of local lockdown measures for England has been outlined by Boris Johnson today. From Wednesday, different areas of England will be split up into medium, high and very high alert levels under the new system that attempts to curb rising Covid-19 rates.

The toughest set of measures, know as "very high alert level" or Tier 3, will see a number of new and tightened restrictions.

Pubs and bars must close, and can only remain open where they operate as if they were a restaurant - which means serving substantial meals, like a main lunchtime or evening meal.
