Captain Tom Moore has sadly died. The World War II veteran, who helped to raise millions for the National Health Service in the UK amid the pandemic, passed away due to COVID-19, his family confirmed Tuesday (February 2).
He was 100 years old. By walking laps in his garden in 2020, he was able to raise nearly $45 million for the NHS, and earned him the affection of the nation amid lockdown.
His efforts also led to him earning him a military promotion, a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II and even a number-one single on the charts. “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear father, Captain Sir Tom Moore,” the family said in a statement to PA Media, via CNN. “The last year of our father’s life was nothing short of
