Flooding fears have been voiced over the prospective redevelopment of a former paper mill. The former Mondi Paper Mill, also known as Holcombe Mill, in Ramsbottom could be redeveloped by Eccleston Homes to accommodate 83 houses ranging from one to four bedrooms in size.
But environment experts have told the council to refuse the plans in their current form due to a risk of flooding on the land off Bridge Street which lies next to the River Irwell.
Ramsbottom resident Marlene Hession described the proposed development as the biggest in a generation for the town with a population of 18,000.
But she warned of the dangers of building on the Mondi Mill site following “regular flooding” there as well as the adjacent cricket pitch, Nuttall Park
