The lockdown will start on Thursday and last 21 days. The strict measure was put in place to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

So far, more than 500 South Africans have tested positive. The global tally currently sits at 382,108 confirmed cases and 16,574 deaths.

Celebrities joined scores of South Africans in sharing the views on the tough stance and what it means for SA. Actress Linda Mtoba took to Twitter to reveal that she couldn’t sleep after the president’s announcement.
