Chancellor Rishi Sunak has said the Government's jobs retentions (JRS) scheme could be extended for the second time, after it expires on June 30, 2020.
The initiative, which has so far been granted to 4million workers, was initially phased in to protect workers for three months. "I am determined to make sure as many people as possible return to work after this crisis," Sunak said in Parliamentary update of the economy on Monday. "I want to make sure that as we emerge from this crisis, we can bounce back to the lives we once knew.
Sunak said the JRS "will be extended" if necessary, in line with the how employers react to the ongoing crisis. The news will being relief to millions of workers who face job uncertainty on the back of the Covid-19
