A bra company has found a new way to support its local community - by switching production to face masks during the coronavirus pandemic.

Atsumi Fashion Co. will make the masks by repurposing women’s underwear. The move came after it was announced Himi, Japan, which the city the company's factory is based in, was down to its last 600 face masks.

Japanese officials said this week that there had been "no surge of infected patients that led to the collapse of the medical environment".

By using cloth lining from bras the company now has plans to ramp up its production and give 1,000 masks to medical and educational institutions, prioritising those in greatest need.
