Claims coronavirus is spreading through petrol pumps have been rubbished by health professionals today. It was feared Covid-19 was moving “rapidly” down the pumps and infecting drivers across the country.

WhatsApp messages and posts on social media suggested a senior NHS nurse had advised people to wear gloves at petrol garages.

But a Public Health England spokesperson offered some clarity on this saying the pumps offer no more exposure than any other surface. "Petrol pumps are no worse than other surfaces, although we do recommend people use gloves and wash their hands after using them,” they said today.
