Almost 900 people with coronavirus have now died in Greater Manchester's hospitals. A further 64 lives have been claimed by the virus, bringing the region's death toll to 897.

This is the second highest daily increase in announced deaths so far for our region. NHS England figures released on Monday show that another 112 had died after contracting COVID-19 in the North West, compared to another 81 people in London.

The figures broadly suggest that the while the capital may have begun moving past its peak, the North West could be approaching ours.

In England, 429 new deaths were announced bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 14,829.
