Coronavirus death toll in Greater Manchester rises as another 34 lives are lost

Another 34 lives have been claimed by coronavirus in Greater Manchester's hospitals. The latest NHS England figures show that a total of 1,279 people in our region have died after testing positive for the virus.

The Manchester Evening News previously reported how the number of coronavirus deaths in Greater Manchester peaked in mid April - eight days after the rest of England.

In the last 24 hours, the biggest increase in COVID-19 deaths was recorded at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust where a further 10 lives were lost.

Seven patients died of coronavirus at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, six at Salford Royal and five at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
