Single parents are more likely to been furloughed, had their hours cut and forced to rely on foodbanks during the coronavirus pandemic, a study reveals today.
Some 44% of children living in single parent families were in poverty before the crisis, compared to 26% of those in two parent families, according to research by the Learning and Work Institute and charity Gingerbread, backed by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
And the pandemic has seen lone mums and dads disproportionately hit by the impact on jobs and wages. One in three single parents have have been furloughed, compared with one in four coupled parents.
