The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League says it will be seeking financial assistance from provincial and federal governments.
The league says due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has sustained massive financial losses. The 20-team league said it’ll be looking to the provincial government for support, and that it will also be trying to receive funds from a federal $500 million program, aimed at supporting Canadian arts, culture, and sports organizations. “Our league has been operating for more than 50 years and our teams make a huge impact in their communities, both on and off the ice,” KIJHL commissioner Jeff Dubois said in a press release on the league’s website.
