Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke Monday about the various measures the federal government was taking to ensure the newly announced financial aid program for large companies wouldn’t be taken advantage of, including ensuring the aid is given to workers rather than the executives.
According to Trudeau, companies will be required to make a number of commitments to access the funds, including upholding labour and environmental standards, curbing executive bonuses and dividends, and sharing their complete financial structure.
The prime minister also said if it’s apparent a company was involved with aggressive tax avoidance, the federal government would implement conditions to ensure those companies pay their fair share of taxes. .
