Coronavirus: Police chiefs braced for rise in child sex abuse during lockdown

Police chiefs have warned that they are expecting to see a rise in both child sex abuse and domestic abuse during the coronavirus lockdown.

They have also raised concerns about online child sexual abuse and indecent images of children. Chief Constable John Robins, Chief Constable, West Yorkshire Police said there was a "lag" between the spike in reports to charities like Refuge and others and police incidents.

After the National Domestic Abuse helpline saw calls rise by 25% in five days, police are expecting an increase in incidents to follow.

Chief Constable Robbins told the Home Affairs Select Committee: "Professional judgement would say we expect to see more safeguarding issues within the household.
