Ferry passengers jump into sea as crew members 'show coronavirus symptoms'

Panicked ferry passengers were spotted throwing themselves into the water after rumours spread that coronavirus carriers may be on the vessel.

It came after Indonesian ferry KM Lambelu was banned from docking at the port in Maumere in the eastern island of Flores. Video taken by passengers show crew members calling for help as concerned passengers gather at the corridor as the incident unfolds.

Five are seen throwing life jackets into the water before taking a leap off the ferry amid fears of suspected coronavirus patients onboard.

Young children and women scream as they watch them risking their lives to swim to the shore. In a separate video, the five passengers are seen being picked up by a passing-by boat as the rescuers confirmed none
