Coronavirus potential new top hotspots in UK named - and most are in North of England

East Renfrewshire, Manchester and Nottingham top a coronavirus watch list, according to new figures which show a rise in the weekly number of cases in the UK.

Ards and North Down in Northern Ireland, Tameside and Blackpool are also in the top ten based on new data from Covid-19 symptom tracking app.

The app suggests the UK is averaging 1,974 daily new cases of Covid-19, excluding care homes, up sharply from an average of 1,292 cases per day a week ago.

The latest prevalence figures estimate that 22,040 people currently have symptomatic coronavirus in the UK - up from 18,340 last week - and the numbers have increased from last week with R values slightly above one.
