People diagnosed with coronavirus are being encouraged to familiarise themselves with the signs of sepsis.One in five Covid-19 survivors who required hospital treatment is at risk of sepsis within a year of being discharged, according to the UK Sepsis Trust (UKST).The charity has estimated 100,000 people are going to be discharged from hospital in the UK having had Covid-19.This means about 20,000 people could be put at risk of life-threatening sepsis, the charity said, as it called for the government to invest in an awareness campaign.Sepsis is a life-threatening reaction to an infection.
It happens when the body’s immune system overreacts to an infection, which can lead to organ failure and death.Dr Ron Daniels, founder of the UK Sepsis.
