The government is calling for thousands of volunteers to come forward for clinical coronavirus trials in the search for a vaccine.
Almost 1,000 patients from 132 different hospitals have been already recruited in just 15 days and many more are expected to join the Randomised Evaluation of COVID-19 Therapy (RECOVERY) trial in the coming weeks.
This would make it the largest randomised controlled trial of potential COVID-19 treatments in the world. The announcement comes as the UK death toll rises by 684 to 3,605 in the biggest daily jump so far.
