A cruel thug is facing jail after he spat in a female police officer's eye during the coronavirus lockdown. Temisan Oritsejafor, 41, attacked PC Napier who was arresting him after he assaulted his neighbour.

Police were called to his flat in Wyken, Coventry, on April 18 after Oritsejafor became abusive towards neighbour Alison Osborne.

During the row, Oritsejafor suffered a bloody nose and while he was being arrested he spat in PC Napier's face. A court heard Oritsejafor was on bail at the time for a previous assault on a police officer.

Oritsejafor admitted common assault and two charges of common assault on emergency workers at Warwick Crown Court on Tuesday.

PHILADELPHIA - No one was injured after a gunman opened fire on a Philadelphia police officer during a shootout Wednesday afternoon in Germantown.Philadelphia Police Sergeant Eric Gripp told reporters that two plainclothes officers in an unmarked car were patrolling the 4800 block of Keyser Street around 2 p.m. when they came upon a shootout between a 23-year-old and a 20-year-old. The officer in the passenger's seat identified himself as police and ordered both men to drop their weapons when one of the men fired towards the officer, Gripp said. The officer ducked behind cover as the suspect attempted to flee down Keyser Street. According to investigators, the officer that was still inside the vehicle drove after the suspect and fired once through the windshield but missed. Both suspects were uninjured and captured nearby due to a massive police response, Gripp said.Investigators believe something happened between the men before police arrived that involved more than just the two gunmen. Gripp said police are still looking for other suspects, but he did not provide a description. "It just continues to speak to level the gun violence that we're seeing almost every day in this city," Gripp said.

COVID on Wednesday, with 449 in intensive care units.This is down by 195 hospitalizations and a decrease of 25 in ICUs since the previous day. Last Wednesday, there were 2,939 hospitalizations with 555 in ICU.The province recently began distinguishing between those who were admitted to hospital directly because of COVID, and those who were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for the virus.Of the 2,059 people in hospital with COVID-19, 56 per cent of them were admitted because of the virus, while 44 per cent were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for COVID-19.Of the 449 people in ICUs with the virus, around 80 per cent were admitted because of COVID, while around 20 per cent were admitted for other reasons.
