HYDERABAD: A staggering 43 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus (covid-19) in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases from 44 a day earlier to 87.
All 43 infected people are linked to the religious congregation at the Alami Markaz Banglewali mosque in Delhi's Nizamuddin area.
The event was organised by the Tabhligi Jamaat, a sect of Sunni Islam, last month. A bulletin from the Andhra Pradesh government said a total of 373 samples were sent for tests, of which 43 tested positive on Wednesday.
Most of those who tested positive are from Kadapa area, which is dominated by Muslim population, and West Godavari district in the state.
