NEW DELHI: The road transport and highways ministry has asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to suspend toll collections across the country until 14 April during the 21-day lockdown period.
Maintenance of roads and availability of emergency services at toll plazas will, however, continue. The lockdown is effective 25 March and was announced to contain the spread of novel coronavirus infection. "In view of Covid-19, it has been ordered to temporarily suspend the collection of toll at all toll plazas across India.
This will not only reduce inconvenience to the supply of emergency services but also save critical time," road minister Nitin Gadkari said in a tweet late on Tuesday.
