Criminals tried to exploit coronavirus crisis and smuggle £1m-worth of cocaine into UK - others have sold fake PPE and bogus COVID-19 cures

Criminals were caught trying to smuggle £1m-worth of cocaine into the UK in face masks, the Home Secretary has revealed. Speaking in today's government press briefing, Priti Patel said Border Force stopped the smugglers as they tried to enter the UK through the channel tunnel.

She said more than 2,000 scams relating to COVID-19 have been taken offline in the last month. Criminals have tried to take advantage of the global pandemic.
