Measures to help renters who have been impacted by Covid-19 are due to be debated in the Dáil today. The proposed legislation is aimed at making sure tenants who are under pressure to keep up with rent payments can stay in their homes for the duration of the crisis.

Emergency measures to help the tens of thousands of renters who have lost their jobs as a result of Covid-19 were brought before Cabinet last week.

They include a temporary ban on evictions and a pause on rent increases for an initial period of three months. The legislation, which will be brought before an elongated Dáil session later today, will result in changes to the Residential Tenancies Act.
