A parish priest in Co Donegal has said he is proceeding with a First Holy Communion ceremony this week, despite current public health guidelines.
Fr John Joe Duffy from St Michael's Church in Creeslough, said the advisory against holding communions and confirmations "doesn't make sense".
He said: "I think what's being imposed on these children and on the church is disproportionate, unfair and unreasonable in the context of the overall reality." Speaking on RTÉ's Brendan O'Connor programme, Fr Duffy said the children and families involved in the service are "already mixing within sights of the church." Fr Duffy said said that 18 children will receive their communion and said the ceremonies will not contribute to the spread of infection
