A drink-driving mum who "almost killed" a married couple while flouting coronavirus lockdown rules has been spared jail because of the harm it would cause her four-year-old son.

Samantha Pye, 24, narrowly missed ploughing her Ford Fiesta into Stephen Smith and his wife after losing control of her vehicle.

She had hit speeds of 70mph in a 40mph zone, reports the Liverpool Echo. And Pye, who was already banned from the road for drug driving, admitted dangerous driving, drink driving and driving while disqualified.

She was spared jail though after a judge said a prison sentence would be potentially harmful for her four-year-old son. Instead, the mum received 12 months in jail, suspended for 18 months.
