A drunk threw a wine bottle at a shopkeeper and then grabbed and assaulted a woman in the street during two random attacks. James Hayes, 45, threw the glass bottle at the worker at a convenience store in Ancoats, who was wearing a face mask in the week the lockdown was first imposed.
Minutes later, Hayes grabbed a woman walking home from work, and pushed her face into a metal railings at least twice, causing blood to pour from her mouth.
Now Hayes, from Gorton, has been jailed for eight months. Manchester Crown Court heard that Hayes had gone into the shop, on Butler Street, at about 8.30pm and bought a bottle of wine.
