Dublin road space being taken for pedestrians over virus

Parking spaces around Dublin city will have to be taken over for pedestrian use to allow social distancing, according to the city council.

The council is going to use the road space to cater for overspills of pedestrians trying to avoid queues for shops. Works started this morning by using "orcas" or plastic bollards to seal off a loading bay in Stoneybattter and similar work will be carried out on Dorset Street tomorrow with more planned for Ranelagh, Rathmines and Capel Street.

Delivery drivers are being asked to park further away from shops. Brendan O'Brien, the council's head of technical services, said this is only the start and parking spaces will have to be removed from extended lengths of roadway where pavements are narrow such as
