Parkgate pensioner put pen to paper to write the number for dedicated wife Alice, in time for her birthday last week. Retired Andrew penned lyrics and music to the lockdown work because he was left devastated that he couldn’t get out to buy his wife a birthday gift. And he hoped to mark the occasion, and the couple’s 60th wedding anniversary yesterday, in his own unique way.
Andrew, 87, met 83-year-old Alice at the Chapelcross nuclear plant, where she was employed as a cook and he was a boilerman.
But his bashful beau was too shy to speak to him, until romance blossomed when he gave Alice and her bicycle a lift home in his van after she was drenched in a downpour.
