Edmonton EXPO Centre homeless shelter to have drop-in, COVID-19 health care services

The Edmonton EXPO Centre is set to officially open as a temporary health centre Monday night and drop-in centre Tuesday morning.

The space will help vulnerable people through the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement that the centre would be used to support Edmonton’s homeless through the public health crisis was made by Premier Jason Kenney last Friday It will be jointly run by the city, Alberta Community and Social Services, Alberta Health Services, Homeward Trust and community partners.

There were be two different options for homeless support at the EXPO Centre: The first is a drop-in centre, open between 8 a.m.

to 8 p.m., seven days a week. It will be in a large space allowing for social distance. The drop-in space will provide overflow
