OVO Energy is using the coronavirus crisis as an excuse to shed jobs, a worker at the Perth base has claimed.It was revealed earlier this week that the energy giant, which bought SSE retail division in January, was looking to get rid of 2600 staff.Stephen Fitzpatrick, founder and chief executive of OVO Energy, said the COVID-19 pandemic had forced the company to accelerate its move to digitise SSE and incorporate it into OVO.But speaking to the Perthshire Advertiser on Wednesday, one worker at the SSE Dunkeld Road base, who wished to remain anonymous, described the news as a “betrayal” and said: “There’s no need for this right now, it doesn’t need to happen.” He added: “They’re using COVID as cover.
