COLOMBO (News 1st) – The UN Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Association has stressed the need to ensure the people's rights to assembly in Sri Lanka.Clement Voule, the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Association and Peaceful Assembly said his office will be following the situation closely in Sri Lanka.'He said that ahead of protests planned by the Inter-University Student's Federation in Colombo on Tuesday (18), Sri Lankan authorities must respect the right to assembly.He also said that law enforcement has an obligation to protect peaceful protestors & must create a safe & enabling environment for all to express their views.
