Extra garda checkpoints planned ahead of bank holiday

Gardaí are to announce details of their policing plan for the forthcoming weekend to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Operation Fanacht is to commence tomorrow morning to prevent people travelling across the country in advance of the bank holiday.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris is to announce details of additional checkpoints and extra patrols at beaches and beauty spots.

The garda force is operating a policing policy known colloquially as 'the four Es' - to engage, explain, encourage and only if necessary enforce the emergency legislation.
