Family left homeless after fire tears through house leaving it unsalvageable

A grim video has shown the gutted remnants of a house after a fire tore through it and left a family-of-eight homeless. Sam Kelk, 34, who was told his son Jude was lucky to escape, described the terrifying incident while filming the damage on his mobile phone, saying: "It's pretty crazy".

The blaze broke out on Tuesday at the property in Nottingham Road, Chaddesden, where flames were seen billowing from the roof, Derby Telegraph reports.

Sam lived at the house with his wife, Hannah, their four children – Toby, 16, Jude, 13, Lottie, 7 and five-year-old Tilly – and his elderly parents.
