A West Lothian Zoo has rescued over 100 tortoises from international trafficking.Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder saved 113 red-footed tortoises after law enforcement seized them in South America.The little hatchlings had been taken straight from the wild and were destined for the pet trade or human food consumption.With everyone limiting social contact due to coronavirus, and no visitors to the zoo to support their work at the moment, they urgently needed financial help to best care for the reptiles.Five Sisters then offered them to the general public for adoption.Adopters got a certificate, fact sheet and naming rights.Within days they had all been adopted, at a cost of £40 each, which will help the zoo to provide the suitable and safe
